Down To Your Nest Mama

from Songbones 88-84 by Jeff Smith

about

A track I've had for awhile and kept thinking I wanted to add stuff to it. I think it's best stripped down like this. I always imagines a big alligator lumbering up an embankment to the mama's nest to eat the eggs. Don't know why but that's what images came to ming and stayed there for many many years. I recently made a video for it that comes close to my brain scans. Maybe it's my version of "Muskrat Love".

lyrics

I've been down to your nest mama
Down to your nest

While you was out
I seen your babies

Been down to your nest mama
While you were out

And it filled with a fever
I just can't forget
And I'm back here baby
And I'm standing' in your nest

A long time ago
I seen you with your walking babies on
I held your hand and man was it grand

And I felt like walking' with you that day
I never will forget when i was walking with you baby

about

Jeff Smith Virginia

Inspired and influenced by early country, blues, rock and pop
Jeff Smith writes songs and tells elongated and elliptical stories about them. Jeff's Appalachian drawl slides in and around his guitar playing and Smith says “on a good night the stories and songs swing on top of a funky kind of country blues pop stomp”. Now residing in the swamps of Virginia, Smith performs club gigs and
concerts.
