Mr. Anderson and Dig Dag Ratbone and The Drum of Poison Finger Sam

from Songbones 88-84 by Jeff Smith

/

about

This was recorded on a Tascam 8 track cassette recorder. A rehearsal of two songs that I mashed together and added some interference grrrtar and some backward sections. I wanted to insert a section that was made up of a band playing the individual notes of a solo. Someday.

lyrics

MR ANDERSON

Mr Anderson has a fever
He sits two rows over
His wavy red hair
Is on fire
And sweat beads up
On his upper lip.
And then he burps very loudly
And I cover my ears with my hands
And I turn my head
Cause Mr Anderson is throwing up
Mr Anderson is throwing up

DIG DAG RATBONE
AND THE DRUM OF POISON FINGER SAM

Plastic spatula spaz boy stomp
I seen my baby in Steinman's swamp
Her blue pajamas full of flannel fuzz
Bees all around her head talkin' jive buzz buzz

The alligators talk and swim away
Sh know the language turns night to day
The air could drown you it feels so thick
She stir it up with a gris gris stick.

Did Dag ratbone the dragon's den
Everything is slow motion when
Each breath is fire, each breath's a curse
When you've seen your baby in the devil's hearse

Toy boat red slips downstream
Disappears in a fevered dream
Hear the drum of poison finger Sam
Sing the song called I'll be damned

Birds of prey hang on wires
Vampire moon conducts the choir
The mimosa strangled in her vines
Begin to moan shake and whine

Did Dag ratbone the dragon's den
Everything is slow motion when
Each breath is fire, each breath's a curse
When you've seen your baby in the devil's hearse

The ledge overlooking the waterfall held you in mid air.

(Verse below to be sung by the listener
in between the recorded verses)

Broken bones brittle and sharp
Rattle like diamonds in the dark
A dog with wings flew into town
Demon fairies came out it's mouth
Dig Dag Rat Bone

about

Jeff Smith Virginia

Inspired and influenced by early country, blues, rock and pop
Jeff Smith writes songs and tells elongated and elliptical stories about them. Jeff's Appalachian drawl slides in and around his guitar playing and Smith says “on a good night the stories and songs swing on top of a funky kind of country blues pop stomp”. Now residing in the swamps of Virginia, Smith performs club gigs and
concerts.
