AN AMERICAN BOYFRIEND Su Ling is in this country Looking for a new way of life She's looking hard at looking for work It's starting to get her down But in her letters to her mother and father She tells them not to believe Everything they might read in the papers Cause America is beautiful When America is free And things will be getting better As soon as I get me An American Boyfriend Everybody's talking foreign I don't understand the language She thinks she might be picking up phrases But nothing she can use in conversation chorus Su Ling is so confused In the land of opportunity She sees the natives out of work She wonder if she'll ever fit in.
2.
NERVOUS INDIVIDUAL An emotional reaction By a nervous individual Stopped the clocks of reason And left me standing here They said it was freezing When you're by yourself No one's pumping the heart And there's no one left to tell That you're a nervous individual ticking away That you're a nervous individual and a crowd all by yourself Self concerned with preservation You scare them off With ease like You are playing for keeps Never in their dreams have they seen a human being With such intensity You oughtta see 'em run chorus And the earth keeps moving under your feet You're a nervous individual and a crowd all by yourself You take a slap in the face too personally I would never had said a word had I known Too scared to talk much you hold things in Till it get unbearable then you explode unexpectedly

about

1982 release of the single by The Sleepers. We became hundredaires behind this release and we got a call from a radio DJ in Australia who said his phones were lighting up like crazy and there were traffic jams in the streets. Unfortunately we could not capitalize on such good news and fly down under to do a tour. We did a a lot of recording when we were with Schizophonic Records but this was the only piece released or mastered. I am mastering what there is of the other recordings from this time period and will post on here for fans of the band and for fans of this type of music.

about

Jeff Smith Virginia

Inspired and influenced by early country, blues, rock and pop
Jeff Smith writes songs and tells elongated and elliptical stories about them. Jeff's Appalachian drawl slides in and around his guitar playing and Smith says “on a good night the stories and songs swing on top of a funky kind of country blues pop stomp”. Now residing in the swamps of Virginia, Smith performs club gigs and
concerts.
