Take Me Out 03:20
TAKE ME OUT OF THIS WORLD Sometimes my problems seem so insurmountable that I cannot solve them And I let depression in like it had a reservation for a table I let the little things whittle me down Till there's nothing left of me to be found And I get so wrapped up in myself That I cannot recognize you Standing in the tunnel with a light ready to Take me out of this world when you put your arms around me Take me out of this world I'm in a free fall spin Whatever it is that makes this world spin so crazy Is the very same thing that makes me want to jump off at the corner of life and death And I hope it's not the same all Street Where I once stood watching the rain Falling into a little brown puddles that Carried my reflection away from me I got so dizzy that I called out for you Take me out of this world when you put your arms around me Take me out of this world I'm in a free fall spin I wander in and out of a conscious state But it has no flag of it's own To wave in the face of the enemy who is always ready to be the enemy If only there was a way for all of us feeling so separated to drift together with one thought Maybe we would not feel like Adam when he said to Eve before the fall Take me out of this world when you put your arms around me Take me out of this world I'm in a free fall spin

When Did You Figure it Out When did you figure it out That it was time for a change There are some things you can’t do anything about But this something you arranged When did you figure it out You can’t surrender control Every time you don’t do it yourself You’re gonna get left out in the cold When did you figure it out That you can do anything Even with all of your doubts You can’t erase dreams or instinct When did you figure it out That when the heat comes on you can’t concentrate Too many choices with twists and turns Have got you talking in your sleep while you’re wide awake When did you figure it out That it was time for a change There are some things you can’t do anything about But fate is something you arrange When did you figure it out That messages are being sent A lifeline network’s been set up You better sharpen up your telepathy

I THINK WE’VE GOT A HOLDOUT You’re out there on the street Doing what you’ve been taught Believing it’s survival Without a second thought Dressing for success And not missing a trick A suit and tie or a bow at the throat To hide the scars of office politics Bit I think we’ve got a hold out Someone who is not joining in I think we’ve got a hold out Someone who is not blending in The gears turn your mind You’ve become a part of the machine I can still remember you But I miss the human being People still love to talk Whenever they’re together Pour a drink to break the ice Common ground is talking the weather

It's The Little Things I am not a fool prone to flying off the handle And I am not so bored that i have to cause a scandal But I might punch the wall in a rage that's been growing I keep it inside without ever knowing I'm doing the best I can without my innocence When I could take it in stride and use it as my defense But it's the little things that makes me nuts The everyday scrapes and cuts that just tear me up I'm doing the best I can living with the bomb Even when they alienate every you and me citizen Tom I try to hold my tongue around joking racial bigots But I know they've been too long drinking from a poison spigot I find it alarming how little we show we care It makes me stop and wonder why do we make life so unfair Im doing the best I can to improve my attitude Sometimes it comes easy sometimes I come unglued I carry the world with me upon my new wrist watch TV But it's the little things that makes me nuts The everyday scrapes and cuts that just tear me up It's the little things It's the little things It's the little things that tear me up

about

Norm Rowland produced this record and then went out to LA. I went to St Croix. The record was recorded in a week at Bias Recording. All the players on this were friends and were also some of the busiest session musicians in the area, as well as being in the clubs at night. It was a great experience, and it was difficult and tense at times. Fortunately everybody else were pros and took everything in stride. I was in panic/flight mode but gradually calmed down. I had recorded some of these songs before with different arrangements and with different players.

These particular songs were chosen by the producer who also hired the musicians and ran the sessions with Bob Dawson at Bias. The record never came out. I always thought it was good. It was different in a lot of ways from the music that was current at the time. There are sounds that tie it to the late Eighties, but the record itself wasn't about the sounds. It was something else.

about

Jeff Smith Virginia

Inspired and influenced by early country, blues, rock and pop
Jeff Smith writes songs and tells elongated and elliptical stories about them. Jeff's Appalachian drawl slides in and around his guitar playing and Smith says “on a good night the stories and songs swing on top of a funky kind of country blues pop stomp”. Now residing in the swamps of Virginia, Smith performs club gigs and
concerts.
