I'm Always Gonna Be Here

about

There was an article in the Washington Post about an abandoned baby left in a garbage bag in a dumpster. I wrote it from the perspective of the baby and gave it some imagined little bit of hope.

lyrics

I'm Always Gonna Be Here

I am just a little guy
Out here looking up at the sky
Im not well and I'm very cold
I'm all alone and I'm three days old

My momma left me here and she never looked back
Wrapped me in a blanket and a garbage sack
I'm so tired and full of fear
Why did my mamma leave me here

Oh momma am I so bad
you threw me away like a beat up old hat
You left me for dead
But I'm always gonna be here in your head

Somebody found me and gave me some food
I felt warm and I began to dream
But I'm too little and I'm way too sick
I can'd hold on much longer like this

I need some big loving arms around me
I need somebody to say hey baby I love you
I need some contact, I need some skin
I need somebody to take me in

Oh momma am I so bad
you threw me away like a beat up old hat
You left me for dead
But I'm always gonna be here in your head

I'm always gonna be here
I'm always gonna be here
I'm always gonna be here
In your head.

about

Jeff Smith Virginia

Inspired and influenced by early country, blues, rock and pop
Jeff Smith writes songs and tells elongated and elliptical stories about them. Jeff's Appalachian drawl slides in and around his guitar playing and Smith says “on a good night the stories and songs swing on top of a funky kind of country blues pop stomp”. Now residing in the swamps of Virginia, Smith performs club gigs and
concerts.
